If so, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Engineer Senior to lead waste load engineer and water quality standards teams that might be perfect for you! This vacancy is in the Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment Section of the Environmental Services Division's Water Quality Bureau.

As senior engineer, you will be responsible for leading engineers that calculate waste load allocations (WLAs) and water quality-based effluent limits for wastewater treatment facilities with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits. You will conduct advanced water quality modeling using data such as stream hydrology, pollutant background concentrations, and rate coefficients. You will also develop guidance and directions related to WLA methodologies and will help coordinate with total maximum daily load (TMDL) staff to address WLA issues and the needs of the Department, and provide guidance to other sections' staff for WLA coordination.

This senior engineer position will lead development of water quality standards, including water quality criteria, based on review and analysis of available technical information and Department goals, and will co-lead use attainability analysis work that supports designated uses for Iowa water bodies. As specified by the EPS, this position will also develop all technical support and necessary documentation for rule-making efforts associated with Iowa's water quality standards.

Qualified applicants must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) Licensure at the time of application, and possess/acquire an Iowa Professional Engineer Licensure within six (6) months from the date of hire. Must have graduated from an accredited college of engineering.

Possessing/acquiring an Iowa Professional Engineering License within six (6) months of the date of hire is a CONDITION of employment for this position.

The starting salary for new state (Executive Branch) employees is expected be at the base of the pay range. Additional salary increases may occur after the first six months, and then annually (if applicable). The State’s total compensation package features an outstanding set of employee benefits that are worth about 30% of your total compensation.
