Job Description

Knoxville Water Works is seeking a dependable, motivated individual to join our team as

a Water Treatment Plant & Distribution Operator. This position is responsible for the safe

and efficient operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, pumping facilities,

and water distribution system while helping provide high-quality drinking water to the

Knoxville community.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate and monitor water treatment plant equipment and processes

  • Collect and perform required water quality tests

  • Monitor pumps, motors, valves, tanks, meters and other equipment

  • Make adjustments to treatment processes and chemical feed systems

  • Maintain accurate operational and regulatory records

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs

  • Assist with water main, valve, hydrant and service-line maintenance

  • Locate and repair water system leaks

  • Read meters and monitor system pressures and flows

  • Respond to water system emergencies and after-hours calls as needed

  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly work environment

  • Perform other duties related to water treatment and distribution operations


QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to obtain and maintain required Iowa water operator certifications

  • Water Treatment Grade 1 and/or Water Distribution Grade 1 certification preferred

  • Mechanical, electrical, plumbing or utility experience preferred

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to perform physical labor and work outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Ability to safely work around water treatment chemicals and equipment

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to public health and safety


Experienced certified operators are encouraged to apply. Candidates without current Iowa certification may be considered based on experience and qualifications, with training and certification opportunities available.
