The Department of Natural Resources has an opening for an Environmental Engineer in the Water Supply Engineering Section of the Water Quality Bureau.
Primary job responsibilities consist of the technical review of construction permit applications for public drinking water supply engineering projects including: plans and specifications, preliminary engineering reports, corrosion control studies, chemical feed facilities, treatment plants, distribution systems, storage facilities, design waiver requests, anti-degradation analyses, as-built projects, and viability assessments to ensure technical, managerial, and financial viability.
In addition, the successful candidate will review rural water system water main projects, help with implementing various aspects of the Safe Drinking Water Act, and provide guidance and training to various internal and external stakeholders.
Other duties will include managing Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund (DWSRF) projects and providing technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Functions
- Applies state design standards, engineering principles and engineering practices dealing with municipal drinking water treatment and conveyance design and operation.
- Review technical, administrative, and regulatory documents to assure projects comply with SRF and permitting requirements.
- Performs detailed project technical review and prepare comments for projects.
- Performs complex civil and environmental engineering calculations.
- Works independently with minimal supervision.
- Communicates fluently and tactfully both written and oral in English to communicate with permittees, consulting engineers, stakeholders and the public.
- Prepares and makes technical presentations to stakeholders.
- Travels to remote sites for meetings and inspections driving a state vehicle or personal vehicle and mobility to inspect construction sites in rugged terrain.
- Demonstrates initiative, customer service and team orientation and display high standards of ethical conduct.
Special Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Preference will be given to those with related work experience in design and/or design review of drinking water distribution and treatment systems.
Valid Class C drivers license in order to drive a state vehicle or personal vehicle and travel for job duties.

Starting salary for a Department of Natural Resources Environmental Engineer is $56,971.20.
